Athlete of the Month

CLIENT HIGHLIGHTS | JUNE 2023

We have another pair of super strong women to celebrate this month! Emily Lambert and Talia Potochny have very different goals this summer – Talia is preparing for a career in law enforcement, while Emily is preparing to welcome her first baby! These athletes stay consistent with their eyes on the prize as they work toward really big things!

ASF Central: Talia Potochny

From Talia’s trainer, Ashley Bazan:

Talia was an easy choice for member of the month! She is hard working, consistent and dedicated to her goals. Initially, Talia came in to increase her strength for a fitness test in a career she was chasing in law enforcement. Since training, she has increased her strength and has hit running PR’s in times and distance. I can’t wait to hear what great things she will accomplish as a Special Agent!

Talia had some nice things to say about her training:

What do you enjoy most about training with your trainer/at ASF?
The thing I love most about training at ASF is working with such an encouraging coach who pushes me to do my best and reminds me of my goals — thanks Ashley!

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
I’m most proud of my progress so far. It’s super rewarding to see not only feel stronger and notice physical changes, but also see progress in the amount of weights I’m using. When I started, I was only able to lift a small amount. Now I’m lifting almost 4x that in a short amount of time!

What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to seeing what more I can do if I push myself. I’m really excited that I’m able to lift more today than ever before, and I know if I keep training, I will look back at today and think about how far I’ve come again.

ASF South: Emily Berger

From Emily’s trainer, Beckie Lough:

Emily is the Athlete of the Month because she understands that fitness is something that will always be a part of her life and she makes it a priority, no matter what. As she flows through the stages of her life, her relationship with movement is a constant, even while what it looks like changes.

Emily started strength training with me in a challenge with her then-boyfriend. She quickly fell in love with being strong, and even though COVID hit only a few months later, she stayed consistent through Zoom workouts from her garage. Since then has gotten engaged, gotten married, and is now expecting her first baby! She and her husband Josh have trained together on Zoom and separately at ASF, and they motivate each other to keep fitness near the top of their priorities list. Emily even brought in her bestie, Kate Vancil, for Saturday workouts, and seeing their support for each other is just beautiful.

I am so impressed with Emily’s resilience as she prepares to bring a baby into this world. It is not easy! She has had her share of discomforts, but she knows that movement is essential. She has also been learning the importance of rest – strength training is one of the best things you can do for your body, but without sufficient rest, you aren’t doing yourself any favors. This is especially true during pregnancy!

I love working with Emily and I can’t wait to watch her grow in her new role as a mom!

Here’s what Emily told us about her experience:

What do you enjoy most about training with your trainer/at ASF?
Setting and reaching new goals and using weights I never thought I could! I also absolutely love working with Beckie and she has become a close friend and has been there for so many different milestones for me which has been so special!

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
My pull ups prior to getting pregnant and my hip press! I had worked really hard on those and definitely felt like I made a lot of progress on them. During pregnancy, I am really proud of myself for continuing to consistently workout even if the workout looks different than it used to!

What are you looking forward to?
Getting back into the gym postpartum and working back up in weights I may have needed to lower during this time.
