Top 3 Hiking/Walking Trails you didn’t know you were missing in and around Austin

by Kimi Adeigbe

All Austinites and surrounding areas know of the super-popular Lady Bird Lake trail or the Greenbelt or even Barton Springs. We can’t wait to share some hidden gems that you might be missing out on.

#1 Pflugerville Lake Park – 18216 Weiss Ln, Pflugerville, TX 78660

I love when there is scenery and plenty of parking when going for a run/walk. Pflugerville is a suburb north of Austin Texas. This trail surrounds a body of water for approximately 3 miles. Awesome for practicing for a 5k or meeting friends for a nice long stroll.

Pro-Tip: wear plenty of sunscreen since there isn’t much shade or coverage.

#2 Mount Bonnell aka Covert Park- 3800 Mount Bonnell Rd; Austin, Texas 78731

Mount Bonnell overlooks the lake in the heart of Austin. There are 105 stairs to climb for a quick workout and a pleasant surprise at the top- the most beautiful view of the lake. You willoften find families and athletes alike enjoying the great outdoors. This is an amazing view for photo-ops. I have even had the pleasure of seeing engagements and weddings at this location.

Pro-tip: If you are all alone- grab your tripod or selfie stick. Don’t miss out on capturing this beautiful view.

#3 Cedar Break Park and Waterfall- 2100 Cedar Breaks Rd, Georgetown, TX 78633

Cedar Break Park is a 2.5 mile hike through rocky but fun terrain. It doesn’t stop there, once you’ve navigated 2.5 miles you will run into the most beautiful waterfall. This was an all time favorite hike for this specific reason. We highly suggest an extra pair of socks if you’re excited to cool down before your 2.5 mile hike back to the car.

Pro-tip: You must reserve and pay for parking ahead of time but there is plenty of parking.
