Athlete of the Month

CLIENT HIGHLIGHTS | NOVEMBER 2023

We have quite a few amazing clients featured this month! Pauravi Chhaya has been training for a year and is loving the fun of learning, getting stronger, and exceeding her own expectations. Jeremy, Alex and Sagan Meyers have made strength training a family affair for many years, each pursuing their own goals and supporting one another in the process. Our clients’ success is what makes ASF successful, and we love to see these awesome people thriving!

ASF Central: Pauravi Chhaya

From Pauravi’s trainer, Jackie Tey:

Pauravi is just all-around amazing! I have had the privilege of training her for almost a year now and I have enjoyed every session along the way. She is an incredibly hard worker and always gives 100%, despite what she juggles outside of her training. Before we started working together she had never done any weight training, but thankfully she trusted me enough to guide her through this new experience. Since then, I have watched her increase her strength and confidence exponentially, all the while aiming to improve her form wherever possible.

She is living proof that hard work, focus, and consistency can take you anywhere. I always look forward to coaching her and seeing her crush her goals each session. This is only the beginning for her and I am excited to watch her continue to thrive!

Pauravi told us about her experience at ASF:

What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
Jackie has made the strength training journey so much fun. Her attention to detail is incredible! Even if it’s the smallest tweak I need to make in my form, she lets me know and I immediately notice the difference and benefit from it every time. I walk out of every session learning something new about my capabilities, the benefits of the workouts, and the fitness journey overall. On top of all that, she has a great sense of humor. I can tell she is really committed to making sure I make progress AND have fun along the way.

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
It has been incredible to see the results in my physique, stamina, and overall mindset since I’ve started training. I used to have a fixed mindset about working out and dreaded it. I knew consistency was important but didn’t think you could have that much variety in the ways you worked out. I have been working full-time and going to school part-time while training, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect in terms of results. I’m now almost one year into training and glad to say my mindset is no longer fixed, but rather focused on growth. There are so many different ways that you can get stronger! I’m glad to have a customized training plan to help me achieve that.

What are you looking forward to?
I can’t wait to see where I am in another year from now, both mentally and physically. The workouts I am doing now have already surpassed my expectations of what I thought I was capable of, so I look forward to seeing what else Jackie has lined up for me!

ASF South: Alex, Jeremy & Sagan Meyers

From the Meyers’ trainer, Beckie Lough:

I’ve been training repeat Athlete of the Month Jeremy for eight years, and Bench-A-Thon/Simply Fit Games medal-holder Alex for five. And for over a year now, their son Sagan has joined them once a week. It is exciting to watch them each consistently make progress toward their own goals, in spite of health challenges, cross-country commutes, and the everyday stuff of life.

Jeremy has recently taken a much greater stake in his training – he works in CA during the week and is home on the weekends, so he does two sessions of his 4-day program on his own, and then gets in two sessions at ASF each weekend. His strength and precision in his movements has exploded over the past year! We are finishing up a functional strength macrocycle and getting ready to begin a 12-week hypertrophy program. Jeremy is not afraid to train HARD, and I can’t wait to see him crush new goals.

Alex is all about the strength, and she isn’t afraid to show it. She has medaled in several Simply Fit Games and Bench-A-Thons, and she has her sights set on Bench-A-Thon 2024. Even though she has struggled with migraines for years, she does not let that keep her from showing up and giving her all in every single session. Alex is a true badass!

Sagan is 13 and in 7th grade this year. We started out slowly, including him in workouts at the Meyers’ home gym, focusing on bodyweight movements to build coordination and proprioception. Sagan is now training once a week at ASF, and his squat game is on point! I am so proud of how hard he works and how far he has come in his strength and skills.

Here’s what Sagan had to say about his training:

What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
I enjoy that I can get fit at an early age, as a head start for being fit in my adulthood. I also like how well Beckie explains how I should change my movements, and how clearly she says it.

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
I have been proud of myself for how much I have improved on the exercises, such as getting the body position correct, not speeding through the sets because I’m tired.

What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to moving on to more intense exercises, and building more muscle.

Here’s what Alex thinks about it:

What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
Beckie brings a contagious enthusiasm to every workout, always has a smile on her face, and doesn’t take it personally if I get grumpy about what she’s making me do. Her programming is so well thought out, but she can modify on the spot when my many weird middle-aged aches and pains require it. (And she has inspired me to throw off my self-consciousness and wear shorts for the first time since childhood!)

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
I’m most proud of my consistency in showing up, even when I didn’t get enough sleep, or if I feel a migraine coming on, or I just don’t feel like it. And I’m proud that I can now do multiple pull-ups!

What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to the next Bench-a-thon, where I hope to win my age group!

Here’s Jeremy’s take:

What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
Beckie has helped me work past and around a lot of aches and pains, correct postural issues, and get my form right on so many movements. I’ve gone from being intimidated by going to the gym to looking forward to it. I feel like I’m heading into my mid 50’s stronger and healthier than I was in my 30’s. Beckie has been a constant source of encouragement and knows and trains the whole family now.

What have you been most proud of since you started training?
When I started training in 2015, I couldn’t even bench press my body weight. Earlier this year, I bench pressed 225 lbs.

What are you looking forward to?
In the past year, we’ve been working on targeted 10-12 week workout sequences with accumulation and intensification, and I feel like I’m seeing my progress accelerate.
