Athlete of the Month

WENDY HALE: ASF South Athlete of the Month – May 2017

Wendy Hale was selected at ASF South’s Athlete of the Month her because of her outstanding dedication and commitment to training since she began last September. She applies the dedication she has in the gym to her every day life and is oh-so-close to reaching her goal of a strict pull-up!

We asked Wendy about her experience with David and ASF, here is what she said.

What do you do for work/ in your professional life?
Business Intelligence developer for Keller Williams.

How long have you been working out at ASF?
9 months

Why did you decide to join ASF?
I didn’t like being out of shape.  My husband has a co-worker that loves ASF so he suggested I check it out. I did and it has been a huge blessing.

What were your goals when you started?
To be toned and lean. I also set a goal to do pull-ups.

How close are you to meeting them?
I am starting to notice a considerable difference in my strength and tone.  I have gone from not being able to hold myself on the bar to doing solid negative reps.

What changes have you noticed in your body, mind, spirit since starting at ASF?
I’m more content with my physical condition and happy to know it will continue to improve.  I no longer waste time beating myself up about being out of shape.  I’m not afraid to lift heavy things.  I recently went camping which involved lifting heavy coolers and trunks and building shade structures.  I loved the independence of doing it all myself.  It felt great.

What challenges have you had to overcome, if any, since starting out at ASF?
I have had to learn to be patient with results.  My husband always tells me “just show up and do the work and the results will come” and he’s right.

Any surprises since starting at ASF?
I love my 3 days at the gym and look forward to going. I had no idea how much I would enjoy weight training.

Why do you like working out with David?
I appreciate his attention to form and his demonstrations of each exercise.

What is it about David/ASF that keeps you coming back?
I think that working with David is a big reason why I have stuck with it.  He is fun and easy to work with and I’m confident that his expertise is getting me closer to my goals.

What are your goals & plans for the future at ASF?
I plan to continue indefinitely.  I’m excited to see the strength gains and the physique improvements over time.

What is your favorite food?
Bread, butter, meat and cheese haha

Any advice you’d share with a newcomer to ASF?
Work with David.  Be patient.  The results will happen.

Anything else you’d like to add about your experience at ASF or with David?
I love the small gym experience.  I love the location.  I love the one on one training.  I don’t have to think about how much weight or how many reps or what combination of exercises to do each time.  I have a busy life and figuring all of that out would be overwhelming and time consuming which would most likely lead to not doing any of it at all.
