Athlete of the Month

SHANE SUTTON: ASF Central Athlete of the Month – January 2018

Shane Sutton is a 40 year old father and IT guru – which means he sits at a desk all day. He realized that he hadn’t had a good workout for almost 6 years and was starting to feel it. Now, Shane is the client many trainers dream about; he never misses a session, completes his extra workouts on his own, and is always up for a new challenge. He’s been applying dedication to his health and fitness with Coach Theo almost a full year now. “His work ethic is extremely impressive.” said his trainer, Theo. “And he does it all to keep up with 2 young daughters at home. He really blows me away.” Since joining Austin Simply Fit, Shane has built nearly  20 lbs of muscle, proving consistency is key no matter what your goals. Here’s Shane’s interview with Austin Simply Fit about why he’s here and why he keeps going.

How long have you been working out at ASF?
A year

Why did you decide to join ASF?
I hadn’t had a good workout routine since my first child was born 6 years ago. I was going into 40 and not where I wanted to be. With a hectic schedule it was hard to get anything done on my own. I needed some help…

What were your goals when you started?
Strengthen up some weak spots to prevent injuries, my core/lower back in particular. Learn some specific things like the deadlift and some kettlebell exercises. Regain some overall strength/fitness.

How close are you to meeting them?
I think I’ve met my initial goals, although there’s always room for improvement.

What changes have you noticed in your body, mind, spirit since starting at ASF?
Definitely stronger. My back is doing great. A little more disciplined, and reinvigorated!

Any surprises since starting at ASF?
Damn, I was out of shape…

Why do you like working out with Theo?
He definitely gets me to go beyond what I would do on my own. He’s always upbeat
and positive. When I come in with the occasional tweak, he is always able to adjust the workout and give me things to try on my own to help strengthen/fix the problem.

What is it about Theo/ASF that keeps you coming back?
I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made since joining, in spite of a couple of injuries from outside of the gym that we’ve had to work around. I feel like Theo has helped me lay a great foundation, and I want to see what else we can do. I enjoy being active outside of work, and putting work in with Theo helps me keep doing the things I like to do, and do them better.
What is your favorite food?
Lately…I’ve been grilling a lot of steak. I’m kinda boring when it comes to food.
