Best Swimming Spots in Austin
In Austin, we are lucky to have amazing year-round swimming options! From natural springs to community pools, Austin has it all. Whether you are swimming for fitness, leisure, or just to lower your core temperature, you will love our favorite local swimming holes.
Best all-around: Barton Springs Pool
2131 William Barton Dr. Austin, TX 78746
Prices vary, $5 for local adult entry
Many summers, Barton Springs has helped me stay sane through the brutal 100º days that never end. A jump into the fresh, clear, 68º water will light up your senses and cool you to the core. “The Springs” has it all – lush grass for sunbathing and giant trees for shade, a truly springy diving board to let out your inner kid, and second-to-none people watching. Get your fix of old Austin here.
Best for lap swimming: Deep Eddy
401 Deep Eddy Ave. Austin, TX 78703
Prices vary, $5 for local adult entry
When you want to get in some laps but hate chlorine, give Deep Eddy a try. Deep Eddy has been welcoming swimmers since 1915, making it the oldest swimming pool in Texas! Spring-fed, the pool is also a steady 68º year round and features 10 defined 100-foot lanes for lap swimming. There is also plenty of grass for getting your vitamin D, as well as a huge wading pool with a beach entrance for swimmers of all ages.
Best place to swim with your dog: Emma Long Metropolitan Park
1600 City Park Rd. Austin, TX 78730
Day passes are $5 per vehicle Monday-Thursday and $10 per vehicle Friday-Sunday and holidays.
Set along the shores of Lake Austin, the swimming area at Emma Long Park offers a sandy beach and a protected area to keep swimmers safe from watercraft. While you can’t swim with your dog in the primary human swimming area, you can swim with him in Turkey Creek within the park. Let your pup off-leash on the Turkey Creek Trail and have fun splashing in the cool creek!
Best place to swim with your kids: Bartholomew Municipal Pool
1800 E 51st St. Austin, TX 78723
Prices vary, $5 for local adult entry
No matter your age, you can’t go wrong with a swim at Bartholomew Pool. For the littlest swimmers, try the wading pool and the toddler-sized water slide. Older kids will enjoy the lily pad bridge challenge and two tube water slides! With a lap pool and a diving board to top it off, Bartholomew meets the needs of every swimmer!
