ASF Breaks 7 World Records at IPL Championships

Gold-Medals-IPLAustin, Texas (November 14, 2014) – Power lifters representing Austin Simply Fit, a private personal training facility located in Austin, Texas, broke 7 world records at the International Powerlifting League’s World Championships in Las Vegas November 5-9. The athletes also earned six gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

Representing Austin Simply Fit at the World Competition were Krista Bergeron, Nicole Gonzales, Franki Spell, Robyn Pettinger, Annie Diu, Lauren Goebel, Phoebe Morales, Martha King and Bruce Koch. This was each athlete’s debut at the World Championships except for returning lifter Nicole Gonzalez. In order to attend, each athlete had to meet vigorous qualification standards at USPA sanctioned events between November 2013 and October 2014.

The athletes had three attempts at three lifts (squat, bench and deadlift). Bruce Koch, the only male on the team, began the team’s winning streak lifting 633lbs and earning a gold medal in the Master’s Deadlift. Bruce was also the only athlete to secure a World Record in the deadlift.

Phoebe Morales (114lb Division) earned a gold medal and broke a World Record with a 231lb squat. Krista Bergeron (123lb Division) and Niki Gonzalez (132lb Division) both took home gold medals. Martha King (Master’s Division) secured a gold medal and World Record deadlift of 214lbs. Franki Spell (165lb Division) earned a silver medal and Robyn Pettinger (148lb Division) earned a bronze medal.

The most anticipated battle was between teammates Lauren Goebel and Annie Diu, both in the 105lb Division. Their fate came down to one deadlift. Lauren was able to pull a World Record deadlift of 319lbs taking the gold medal from Annie by 5.5lbs. Annie got a silver medal and a World Record squat of 233lbs. Lauren also added a World Record bench press of 129lbs and World Record total of 633lbs.

Coaching the team through the experience was Austin Simply Fit President, world class power lifter and expert fitness trainer Mark Rogers. “It’s impressive to qualify for the World Championships. To have so many athletes qualify, compete and then win is overwhelmingly rewarding,” Rogers said. “I am so proud to work with such a special and talented group of competitors.”
