September Athletes of the Month Iain Gray and Nicole Cavender are getting strong and feeling good! They are ideal athletes – consistent, ready to learn, and committed to training as hard as they can safely. Both Iain and Nicole have seen great results, and they are eager to make lifting a lifelong practice. We look forward to their continued incredible journeys!
ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: Iain Gray
From Iain’s trainer, Kristal Espitia:
Iain and I have been training together since February 2023. He has CONSISTENTLY shown up twice a week with a good attitude, ready to put in work. Iain is dedicated to the process of getting stronger, improving little by little week by week, and is an absolute joy to work with. Iain has built an incredible foundation for strength training and recently added a third weekly training session, which I really look forward to! He is always up for a challenge and is a remarkable member of our community! I can’t wait to see what else we accomplish together!
Here’s what Iain told us about his experience training with Kristal:
What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
I’ve been training with Kristal for about a year and a half. She always has a great attitude and answers all my questions or knows who to ask. What I enjoy most is that she is always making sure that I use the targeted muscles and maintain proper form when exercising. I have been injured while lifting in the past, so exercising safely is important to me.
What have you been most proud of since you started training?
I’m proud that I’ve stuck with the training and made it a part of my routine. I’ve had friends tell me they can tell that I’ve been lifting, which feels good! I’m proud to have participated in the Bench-A-Thon while achieving my personal best at the event.
What are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to getting stronger and healthier. Lifting has improved my yoga practice and my overall well-being and I want to see that continue!
ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: Nicole Cavender
From Nicole’s trainer, Darryl Payne, Jr.:
I chose Nicole because she came to Austin Simply Fit with specific goals and tackled them head on with an enthusiasm and a focus that I haven’t seen in from people in a while. She’s always willing to put in the hard work, even when it gets boring or when she has to do exercises she doesn’t like—the mark of a true athlete. Beyond that, we can look at her results and have them speak volumes about the effort she gives. It’s always a pleasure when Nicole walks into the gym.
Nicole told us about training with Darryl:
What do you enjoy most about working with your trainer at ASF?
I enjoy learning new techniques and skills to improve my performance in the gym. Darryl is also great at making sure I’m doing my workouts correctly so that I’m getting the best results.
What have you been most proud of since you started training?
I’m proud of how strong I feel. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to lift as much weight as I do now, and it makes my body feel better overall. Darryl has been great with seeing my potential strength, and making that a reality!
What are you looking forward to?
Looking forward to feeling more confident in my own skin and the ability to continue my workout journey. I want to be able to lift weights when I’m 80!!
